Barrio de la Música 2013 (Neighbourhood of Music)

Saint Cecilia celebrations in the Conde Duque’s district

From 22 to 23
  November  2013

Location: Auditorio, Plaza Guardia de Corps, Biblioteca Víctor Espinós

With the arrival of St Cecilia’s day, the patron saint of music, the neighbourhood around Conde Duque will pay a passionate and public tribute to music.

With the arrival of St Cecilia’s day, the patron saint of music, the neighbourhood around Conde Duque will pay a passionate and public tribute to music.

On the 22nd and 23rd of November, various institutions, schools, businesses and concert venues that are near to Conde Duque, la Palma and Plaza España will come together to offer many diverse musical activities to the general public.

On these days, this area will become the Neighbourhood of Music, and will include performances both on the street and on stage, ranging from modern gospel music to classical music, and from jazz to electro-pop. All of these will be enjoyed in the form of concerts, discussions, cinematographic projections and even guided visits, which will be livened up with musical pieces.

For the first time, the neighbourhood will make the most of St Cecilia’s day as an opportunity to showcase its musical training resources, with the presence of the Amaniel Professional Music Conservatory (Conservatorio Profesional de Música Amaniel), the Superior School of Voice of Madrid (Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid), the School of Creative Music (Escuela de Música Creativa), and the Patio Maravillas and Victor Espinós Musical Library choirs. The area will also make the most of its performance spaces: Tempo Club, Café La Palma, Sala Siroco and the Conde Duque Cultural Centre, not to mention its cultural centres, the Cerralbo Museum, the ABC Museum and the Renoir cinemas.  The involvement of local business in art will also be celebrated with the Conde Duque’s Association of Hospitality and Trade (la Asociación de Comerciantes y Hosteleros de Conde Duque), the bookshops Ocho y Medio and El Argonauta, and the shop, Headbanger Rare Guitars.

A celebration of music that strives to put the emphasis on the quality and variety of its musical offerings, as well as on the socialisation and activation of urban spaces.
