The JAZZMADRID14 International Jazz Festival of Madrid is being held in Conde Duque from 4 to 26 November, with a wide-ranging programme of music and parallel activities.

The JAZZMADRID14 International Jazz Festival of Madrid is being held in Conde Duque from 4 to 26 November, with a wide-ranging programme of music and parallel activities.

Alongside the 18 concerts taking place in Conde Duque, the main festival venue, the schedule includes performances by ¡Zas Trío!, Javi Bayo (DJ) and Bruno Galindo – Spoken Word – in CentroCentro; James Brandon Lewis, in Sala Clamores; Ken Vandermark, in Rock Palace, plus the double concert by Sebastián Chames and José Luis Montón in Centro Cultural Galileo.

As well as all this, Círculo de Bellas Artes is participating in JAZZMADRID14 with a tribute to critic Javier de Cambra, headed by Randy Weston accompanied by Jorge Pardo, Javier Colina, Josemi Carmona and DJs Bomín and Floro. Plus, the Association of Live Music Venues, La Noche en Vivo, will be putting on more than 70 concerts in 16 venues.

Conde Duque is set to host performances by Dee Dee BridgewaterAl Di MeolaMedeski, Scofield, Martin & WoodChano Domínguez & Niño JoseleRomano, Sclavis, TexierJorge PardoRichard Galliano with hisTribute to Nino RotaZakir HussainMilan SvodobaO Sister!Alexis Delgado & Iñaki Salvador with the Johann Sebastian Jazz programme; the Big Band from the Conservatorio Amaniel; a performance by the Club Reserva 1925 Jazz Band, organised by Cervezas Alhambra; a concert by Escuela de Música Creativa and the heartfelt and eagerly awaited tribute to late drummer Larry Martin.

A series of debates – to be held in the Conde Duque Auditorium with free entry until all seats are filled – will be tackling different aspects of jazz and how it fits in with other creative arts, looking at jazz and film, jazz as the original soundtrack for iconic films and the relationship between literature and jazz.

Conde Duque is also screening a cycle of films entitled “Jazz en el cine” (Jazz in film) with Round Midnight (14 November) by Bertrand Tavernier and Bird (22 November) by Clint Eastwood, with free entry until all seats are filled.

JAZZMADRID14 is delighted to be part of the non-profit making project Jazz Música en Vena, with a performance by La Banda del Soplo in the Auditorium of Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid on 20 November.

This year’s JAZZMADRID14 is also pleased to be working in partnership with the Institut Français, which is hosting concerts by Marc Halbheer/Trio Édition, the Manuel Rocheman Quartet and the Vincent Peirani & Emile Parisien duo, three leading groups on today’s French jazz music scene.
