Conde Duque Cultural Centre will present a recital of recipes set to music directed by artist Marta Fernández Calvo. The event’s conceptual development, production and presentation will be undertaken as part of Gastrofestival 2016, and residents of the surrounding neighbourhood have played an active role by sending in their personal recipes.
The range of sounds produced by following a recipe is the theme that underlies this multidisciplinary project that questions the sources and transmission of knowledge – folk knowledge and oral transmission – and presents the life experience as a form of learning. The aim of the project is to work through art and the various circles, communities and disciplines – music, gastronomy, research – that it interacts with.
From 14 to 20 December, Conde Duque launched a public call with the aim of selecting a number of recipes from the neighbourhood’s residents. Once the recipes have been chosen by Marta Fernández Calvo, the artist will record each participant preparing the dish in their kitchen, and the recipes’ sounds will be translated into musical nomenclature by the composers participating in the project: cellist Sergio Menem, the duo Treme and the band Melange.
On 4 February 2016, the musical soundtrack inspired by interpreting this selection of dishes will be presented in the auditorium at Conde Duque, and the recipes will be distributed to the public in paper format, as a programme/recipe book.
The recital will be followed by a meeting with the public attended by the artist, the composers and the concert performers as well as the neighbourhood residents/authors of the recipes.
